A Boeing 707 at Fujairah

I wonder if anyone with experience of Fujairah airport can help me with an aircraft I am trying to track. It is (or perhaps was) a Boeing 707 registration 4L-GAS. It was owned by a company called Mach Avia and last flew in 2012 and was still stored at Fujairah in 2017. I would like to know if it still exists.

It was originally delivered to BOAC in 1968 with registration G-AWHU as a replacement for Boeing 707 G-ARWE which was destroyed by a fire.

It flew for BOAC / British Airways until May 1982 where it made its last flight in the hands of Captain Hugh Dibley. After leaving British Airways it had 14 different registrations, the last being 4L-GAS with Mach Avia who bought it when it was 41 years old. It sounds like it made its last flight when it was 45 years old.

If anyone knows if it still exists or if it has been scrapped I would be grateful.

All internet searches record the plane as being 'stored' which is not conclusive. Google Earth shows a number of three and four engined planes which look like 707's. The c/n is 19821 and it is a 707-379C model.

If it was delivered new to British Airways, would it have been a -420 series with Rolls Royce Conway engines instead of P&W JT power plants ?

It was delivered to BA with P & W JT3D-3B engines.(Four !!).

Following on from Ras al Khaimah, I drove across to Fujairah. The following is by no means a complete log but what I was able to note either by mark one eyeball or off the camera.

This is a very well protected airfield with CCTV cameras everywhere but as you drive around the perimeter you will find places you can stop but don’t get your camera or telescopes out of the car.

There are two main storage areas. One on the far side of the airfield and the other on the terminal side, to the rear of the terminal. There is also an area next to the terminal ramp with a couple of frames and many wrecks

The following were noted on the afternoon of the 25th March;

3X-GDI Antonov An-26 (30-09) All white, No Titles. Stored far side

3X-GGT Ilyushin IL-76T (043402039) All white, No Titles. Stored far side

4A-GLS Boeing 707 (19821) All white, No Titles. Stored far side

5A-DQB Ilyushin IL-86 (514832070069) Red and White fuselage and tail. Stored Far Side

On the Tour of UAE Bike ride last year the riders went past the airport and there were some great views of the stored aircraft from the helicopter that was filming the ride!
This place would be a great place to visit!

The view from the upper floors of the Royal M hotel have decent views of the bone yard area also, i would take a pair of binoculars though. Or take a flying lesson at Fujairah Aviation Academy that flies from the airport.
