4 x Singapore A380s currently ferrying to Alice Springs for storage.

All 4 are from their latest deliveries, interestingly. Only a couple of years old.

Why would they plan to park the newer ones for longer, assuming these aircraft at Alice will be laid up longest?

Hmmm... good question. I don’t know the answer but I’ll put two guesses out there.

1) The older aircraft may well be heading back to the lease company so not SIA’s problem

2) When you put the aircraft in deep storage the maintenance clock stops. So if you are going to be flying and maintaining the aircraft for another 10 years it makes sense to delay those maintenance charges. For an aircraft you will be disposing of before its next major check then stopping the clock is irrelevant.

Reactivating an old Airbus is usually a engineering nightmare.

It’s like that when you turn it on after an overnight :)

I hope they get looked after better than what the old CX B747's did when they were parked up in Brisbane Airport in the early 2000's. Lowlifes used to get over the fence and deface them with graffiti. So bad that CX took them back to HKG

Yeah, looks like a quick detour for SQ212 SYD - SIN, right?

Noticed they arrived before the tower is open, but then again they should be familiar with our CTAF procedures considering many Singapore pilots did their ab-initio training out of Jandakot, in WA.

that was their 330s when there was issues with the rollers from memory.
I don’t think there would be parking at Brisbane at moment anyway...

They'll have to raise the circling MDA with those 380 tails on the airport surely! :}

I thought the CX B747's went to Avalon in the early 2000's.

The new A380's being stored would be at a greater rate of depreciation than the older ones. Recall United Airlines doing a similar thing years ago on newly ordered aircraft.

It must be cheaper than the Arizona desert.

What is an NDB aerial?

Park the A380’s the right way, then get Matt Hall up to Alice Springs and we could have a Red Bull event( green can event).

They were at BNE Airport near the hard standing by where the old terminal used to be. I was based out of BNE at the time and remember seeing them regularly

I remember only one CX B747 being stored in BNE. I think it was parked on part of the old RWY 04/22.

21JUL98 Cathay Pacific Boeing 747 B-HIE, which arrived in BNE for storage on 23MAY98, was sprayed with graffiti. Several days later, police arrested a man and a youth. The aircraft departed for HAECO's China base on 03AUG98, the graffiti having been successfully removed.

Gutsy move SIA. Some very good artists in Alice. Wunala, Nalanji, Yananyi, dreaming were coming back.
