Wizzair and Air Arabia have both received the green light to start operating from AUH. (AOC granted)
Why is the GCAA letting it happen or encouraging it ? Is there room for 2 low-cost carriers starting operating at exactly the same time, tackling the same market?....
What is the idea behind it?

The idea is to fill the huge airport they've built since Etihad has failed to become the airline they had envisioned.

ok… but 2 similar airlines…(none of them operating a hub-and-spoke model) ………. Starting at excatly the same time…. serving exactly the same market/destinations….?
I am trying to understand the logic behing it. The associated risk of one operator pulling out due to strong head-on competition would result in a costly business for the airport authorities….

I think Wizz have more on their minds than expansion right now....
Like almost everyone!

They better just watching AAAD progress I reckon.

Apparently selection process of internal candidates was closed the day before they let go 265 pilots...

It seems that Air Arabia is already selling tickets out of AUH on their website and have quite a few destinations planned (11 in total so far) …. Wizzair has nothing yet…

Wizzair has moved forward its flights from AUH because DWC is closed for passenger flights till at least end October.
They will only fly what was planned for DWC from AUH.

Guys do you know when is expected to start operations Air Arabia? And how many airplanes initially they plan to put in AUH?

It seems also that WIZZAIR is speeding up and calling some pilots fired on 14/04 to offering a position in AUH.

so seems to be like a race between both airlines to see which one stablished first

Not at all: internal application closed on the 12th or 13th of April. However when reopened post 14/04 many applied who still had a job fearing of further redundancies, thus all positions are filled with internal candidates by now. Divide et impera at it's highest level...
