I have recently started my ATPL theory, and i am using the reading matter provided as part of the course. For the obvious cost reasons i don't want to splash out on text books. Is there a library or lending service that anyone knows of where i could obtain the books on a loan basis. My local library can't guarantee being able to locate any.

If you say you already have the reading matter to go with your course, why confuse yourself and load up with any more detail than you have to. Remember the course is to teach you to pass the exams, don't lose sight of that. Buy your "advanced met" books at a later date.

Only exception to this is the excellent Roller book on the jet engine.

Hmmm... I disagree.

Cost of textbook on average = £20.
Cost of resit per exam = £37
Opportunity cost of having to resit = 2 months wasted.

See it as an investment. Wickson's Met did me proud (92%)
