The F-15QA took off from Lambert Airport, St Louis where it performed 90-minute flight demonstrates new fighter’s unmatched maneuverability and speed Including a “Viking” take off.

Having had to look it up, when they say a ‘Viking take-off’, they mean a (EE) Lightning take-off. I’m sure there’s a reason for calling it what they have but I don’t recall the history books telling tales of Harold the Horny Hunter Pilot.

Nice to see it has the correct number of seats.

At first I thought it a bit extreme to carry out such a take-off in a brand new aircraft - but maybe it is Boeing's new SOP to make sure all the loose tools and other bits & pieces fall out of the back-end...

I know, I know - hat, coat, door. ;)

Nah, new camouflage scheme.

The RAF tried it some years ago:

Nothing like adding the receiving countries letter head to the mark of a plane. A great selling point for the ego. I don’t know if Lockheed were the first to do it with the f104 G. As the infamous music track went “ we’ll call it the f104 G, highlight the G a little so it stands out, the Germans will love it”!

Would someone explain the F4 picture, please. Is that an Exercise BDR airframe, or what?

No Not BDR. Just not painted following Major Service at 4 Sqn RAF St Athan. The aircraft was paint stripped prior to the check starting. It wasn't normal flown in this condition, but there were occasion when the aircraft has completed it's check, but there was no space in the paint shop. All that was added was national marking, and Aircraft registration. Once a slot became available the aircraft was taken for it's paint job, but it allowed us to carry out the flight testing before it's release back to its respective squadron.

The paint jobs were excellent.

They even discovered that there was no need for the bleed drillings on the verticle ramp so filled those in too!

Anyway if that was a "viking" take off I'd hate to see it struggle with a full load of conformal tanks and "full" stations.

How much has the weight gone up?

It's interesting that national markings used to be required, it seems, whereas today many are so low-viz and indistinguishable as to be almost worthless.

We appreciate that you spend quite a bit of time bringing us photos from Mildenhall etc. Unfortunately, it would appear that your lens has been broken for some time. Time for an update to a fully working lens would benefit your efforts immensely. Even a good used lens might be found for a reasonable price and improve your results.

All the best. 😉

The world worst photographer doesn't listen.

He has been told many time before - photography is not your super skill - maybe try golf instead?

I do find it a bit annoying as I often have limited bandwidth and I'd rather not have it wasted on efforts like this.

Crazy golf in Majorca or Dubai is my thing thanks. :)

I do not know why you have limited bandwith nor do I care but I find it slightly amusing to see your response when I post up a photo FYI yes I have had my photos published before internationally thankyou and in the odd product brochure. I can pm a few links if you like.

Happy Xmas anyhow and all the best for 2022

It is true to say that you do post a lot of out-of-focus shots. Personally, I have appreciated seeing these QA shots from you (especially the break shot, which is great), but one or two properly focused shots would have been preferable to seeing many that were not.

I worked as a photojournalist for 16 years and can appreciate that its frustrating to have to cull shots, but less really is more when it comes to imagery!

Anyway, keep enjoying your hobby and merry Christmas to you, too!
