Received some sad news last night. Gerry Sedgwick who had a long flying career with The AAC and then Bristow before turning his talents to passing on his knowledge on the ground in various Ground Schools including the Redhill FTS, died peacefully on Monday after a long struggle with health issues. He was a lovely chap, friend and colleague. I am sure many of you will have been influenced by him over the years. RIP

Thank you Gerry after my own full flying career I have a lot to thank you for. Albeit a civilian from BRW you coached me through ARW and the only thing we got wrong was that I had FHT’d and passed 3 weeks before the end of course! Great man great instructor RIP mate. Steve P

Oh now that is sad news. Our aviation careers have had no similar experiences at all, but his clever instruction got me through the CAA's somewhat idiosyncratic version of the "Principles of flight" ATPL exam.
A sentient person, that never acted like the "lif, roight, lif, roight" military type that I dread, and I warmed to him as a result. Aviation used to be a smaller, perhaps slightly friendlier world in the past and I recall he said he met my father once in "the Bristows flat" in Dubai or was it Abu Dhabi? My Dad was flying with BA but signed the wall, whatever that meant, thats all I know story wise. Anyways, a nice guy that will be fondly remembered.

My instructor on Basic Rotary at Wallop in 1970, on the Bell 47G4.
We met up again around 1998 on the S61N in Unst.
An excellent and patient Instructor who knew how to extract the best from his students.
RIP Gerry.

I had some of the most enjoyable days of my career flying with Gerry on the S61 out of Unst.
