Very interesting info coming out of CAAC - kiss goodbye to things popping back to normal in 2020 for EU / USA The Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) is limiting the number of international flights coming in and out of China in order to curtail the rise of imported coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in the country, the aviation regulator said in a statement on its website.

Starting March 29, Chinese airlines are only allowed to maintain one route to any specific country with no more than one flight per week each, while foreign airlines are only allowed to maintain one route to China with no more than one weekly flight, CAAC said in the statement posted on its website on March 26.

“CAAC may issue policy to further reduce the total number of international passenger flights. Airlines therefore are required to closely follow information released, analyse the situation and make contingency plans in advance, and handle in a proper way the issues such as extension and refund of sold air tickets, etc,” the CAAC said.



Further, no flight can exceed 75% load factor for passenger spacing.

We should be planning for the same over here in Europe / USA but as I have said previously - international aviation will not come back until a vaccine is in play!

What are you going to do with all that parked up capacity if you can't use it... you are going to terminate those leases, and guess what its the same lessor that was also funding your new Max's... Carnage!

Sadly, I think you’re right. International travel is pretty much dead for 2020 and will will remain so until there is a vaccine IMO.

In fact I do wonder if international travel will ever be the same again. 🤢

Irony at its best. The rest of the world, or major economies of the west (G8, EU and the most other western democracy's) should have done this back in December when alarm bells started to ring if not gone further. No flights, No trade, Nothing. Borders shut to China for the foreseeable until they had this under control and developed a vaccine. Hurting their economy early doors would have the only way to get this across.

I can remember the Chinese Ambassador appearing on TV bemoaning the nations that were putting restrictions on Chinese travel. How the world has changed.

I think many countrys put their head in the sand on this. The numbers were clear in mid January and even the Chinese mucked up in not closing down Wuhan a week earlier as many left for Chinese New Year bringing the virus with them.

The UK was lets have a herd immunity, US Intelligence was briefing it so those in the know flogged off shareholdings before a crash so likely others have done the same.

However I think that by May the worst is over, UK anyway, yes controls will be in place and maybe people will be screened in airports, not necessarily a bad thing as TB has been spread in planes for years from certain countries so why not check for a lot more.

Maybe it will change the way we travel but doubt it.

Screening at airports picks up next to no cases. There are many parts of the world where this has yet to kick off so they will be at last 2 months behind us and will last a lot longer due to weak health systems. Foreign travel should be restricted until the danger has passed which won’t be this year and probably not next year either.

Easy to say with the benefit of hindsight and when much of the population of the world is scared. Much harder to achieve when it's all something in a place thousands of miles away and many people think it's nothing more than a bit of winter flu

Flights were not frozen for SARS in 2003 or pig flu in 2009, yet there was little impact in the UK. How would politicians have convinced the masses that this time it would be different without a sizeable number of deaths in countries nearby ?

This wouldnt have achieved a great deal. It's thought to have made it's way to the UK / Spain via Singapore and Italy.

Might be too expensive for European carriers to operate flights on this basis: the aircraft will have to park up for 2 days at PVG, PEK, CAN, etc., while the crew have their rest time, 75% loads may also compromise profitability. European countries may apply similar reciprocal restrictions on Chinese carriers. Could be good for CX, unless the same rules apply.
