LHR-SYD nonstop? That's a mighty effort going west.

Departed LHR 2131Z passing Cape Reinga NZ now at 0649Z

I have a feeling that FR24 may be wrong
Flightaware has it out DFW

Error in FR24.

SYD-DFW-SYD

thinks there's something amiss with the FR24 display.
If the aircraft left LHR at 2131z then It has only taken 9.5 hours to get this far with a couple of hours, 3 max to go to SYD. Total flt time 12.5hours..
More likely it left somewhere on the US west coast, say LAX not LHR.
DFW/SYD is usually more like 17hours not 13.
LHR/SYD would be at least 8-10 more again.

Flightradar24 had QF64D from AKL to ? earlier today. It had come from JNB.

Just think FR24 is getting a bit confused in some cases due the number of irregular routes being flown at the moment.

Some have definitely happened like the Wamos 744 that routed HNL-LGW direct on Weds night/Thurs am (about 14hrs I think).

Meanwhile QF2 is showing on the Darwin Airport arrivals board and FlightAware as a non-stop from London.

I wonder if that’s a first - and maybe a sign of things to come?

QF1 and 2 are routing SYD-DRW-LHR-DRW-SYD due to current restrictions in Singapore. Already been announced, nothing to see here.

What would the alternates be for Darwin? Outbound back to Cairns?, Inbound???

Alternates? How about Katherine / Tindal?

Darwin would rarely need an alternate. Just lots of holding fuel during the wet season.

That depends if you think a single runway with lots of GA and military traffic a viable reason for an alternate even when it’s CAVOK. Plenty of us do!

I could have sworn I see 2 runways at DRW.
Better get my eyes tested.

Sure there’s two, good luck getting an A380 (or anything remotely girthy for that matter) to land on 18/26 though!

18/26 built especially for the A380 only folks.

Grain of salt required for FR24 - apparently an R22 can do 575kts at 600ft.
