Hi,

Would anyone be able to tell me good books to read up on before commencing FAA PPL training?

I plan on starting training during the summer and hopefully completing the PPL within 4 weeks, so I would like to have a lot of the theory learned before I start.

I'd appreciate any information people can offer!
Thanks

What you need are books targeted at the FAA exam syllabus. Your instructor will teach you handling. There's an on-line FAA book.

These two handbooks are what you need / are the FAA's own teaching ...

I found this a very good book to get started. However, it contains nowhere near all the theory you need to know for the EASA PPL, and I've got the feeling the same goes for the FAA PPL. So you might need some more in-depth material (like the FAA material custardpsc mentioned earlier) later on, before you sit the FAA written.

Edited: I noticed you're in Meath (Ireland?). Why an FAA PPL and not an EASA PPL? Just curious.

If you know which school you'll be attending, ask them which course materials they use, and get that. They may have an entire "kit" they want you to use. Else, the links custardpsc shows are good, and free online. There are many choices for ground school materials, textbooks, online courses, etc. They all cover the materials in those FAA publications. The FAA pubs lack a bit as far as organized "homework" guidance, such as chapter quizzes, etc.
I like this series, myself
