Hi,
Can anyone tell me what airframe brought the use of 75ST aluminium alloy, (which was later renamed to 7075), into the mainstream? Was it Lockheed and their Electra or was it a military airframe?
Regards
Mark

Hi Mark,

I don't know the first commercial aircraft that used 7075 but Wikipedia credits the first aircraft that used 7075 as the Japanese Zero fighter.
It was certainly in widespread use by the 1960s, I remember a lot of the frames and other structural components on the B707 and B727 being manufactured from 7075.

I'm pretty sure some of the DC6 structure was 7075. Long time since I worked on one though.
