The obit says that his father was "a musician and composer". George Dyson wrote the middle section of the RAF March Past.

His and his colleagues view on the waging of the bombing campaign make sober reading. Dyson estimated 10,000 Lancaster crew members lost their lives due to the escape hatches being too small, to the tune of one inch. His colleague Mike O'Loughlin, spent two years trying to get the powers that be to change the size. By the time he succeeded the war was nearly over.
