Link to thread regarding ABC News’ editorial line on Uber’s plans for air taxis in Melbourne. ABC obtained the plans (a fleet of 1000 aircraft flying to 80 heliports) under a freedom of information request they made, so they are (really) beating up the story.

This morning, the story is second only to corona virus.

ABC describe the aircraft as “fast and noisy” (!) and so puts noise issues associated with all helicopters under the spotlight.
They draw attention that plans are being made in secret and that regulators are powerless to stop the project.
They compare the noise and privacy concerns to Amazon’s test of drone delivery.

ABC state that uber service will begin this year using existing helicopters.

regulators are powerless to stop the project.

Not quite, they are powerless to stop delivery drones, not these pie-in-the-sky air taxis.

Few of us alive today will get to see anything resembling what is proposed.

I am sure this ABC story was meant to run in the early morning of the first day in April.
