Hi.

Just wondering if any current crew at Skymark Airlines in Japan would be willing to comment on current conditions?
In particular those that have entered as a Direct Entry Command onto B737. Monthly rostered hours on average, average days off per month, nights away from home base, base pay if living in Japan, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Taggert

Hi,

Any news on Skymark, especially on what is happening to expats? Is it similar to Jetstar and Peach with fixed contracts not being renewed?

Regards,

J

I am not at Sky but have a good mate who is... He was up for renewal in June and he was renewed for 1 year... Back in April when the Stink-19 was ramping thru the J-land schedules Sky cut I think 5 Expats, one from each Crewing Company... 1 Oct they gave the 90 day notice for 15 additional Expats making their last day end of the year... Near term no future hiring... Basic pay was reduced by 1000 per month... Scheduled Flights still reduced and loads rebounding slower than expected... T&C are the same as they have been for years, Commuting schedule 10 block days off per month/ 250,000 Jpy housing allowance/ 150,000 Jpy fixed perdeim/ 8000 USD salary, less 1000 now/ rtn airline ticket... Hopefully 2021 will turn and they will once again need Expats... Best off luck...

Same general info I've heard, a few more gaijin departed maybe but whether terminated/not renewed or just moved on unsure, expect to have some 30 gaijin remaining on Jan 1st 2021.
Looking at skeds operating around 70% compared with 50% earlier in the year, loads around 70-75%, hoping to head towards 90% ops by end of the year.
Comment was made by a traveller that Narita was a ghost town, hard to see international starting to recover anytime soon (at least until an effective vaccine appears) hence AirJapan decision to terminate 300 gaijin, a decision it took them time to arrive at and not taken lightly one would imagine.
Have to wonder if another JAL bankruptcy scenario may play out, numbers of local pilots underutilised and maybe terminated or moved around the ANA and affiliate airlines creating more pressure on gaijin?

Anyhow for now nothing more concrete possibly until spring leading into the summer season, best of luck to those still in the game.

Cheers
