View Full Version : AIPA have it all wrong

The email that came from AIPA recently stating that if Qantas circumvent your Association and put an offer directly to pilots, we will be recommending in the strongest possible terms that members vote no.

wrong AIPA. You speak on BEHALF of us. You are NOT our voice.

if we as pilots decide that the deal suits us, our lifestyle and pay, then WE not you, WE will vote as WE see fit.

You’re not the boss of us, you can’t even hold onto Jetstar pilots, you buggered up the short haul EBA and whatever game you’re playing at now, you should just please stop.

This is our EBA. We shouldn’t be told how we should vote.

I don’t have a problem with that.

Gosh...the jack in the box just exploded out.

AIPA were criticised for not voicing an opinion (recommendation) during SHEA vote 1, here they are and some village idiot is having a go.

Everyone is aware it is an individuals voting right and just like an opinion everyone is entitled to one. How about you voice your opinion in a forum that isn’t faceless. I’m no massive pro AIPA voice. It’s just your rant is hysterically semantic.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

"wrong AIPA. You speak on BEHALF of us. You are NOT our voice." So they speak on BEHALF of you, but their not your voice, please, which is it??

They haven't attempt to direct how you vote, not that they can, but have just said they would Strongly recommend you vote No. What do you pay your dues for, if it isn't for an opinion from your elected union reps, unless of course you only want an opinion that you agree with!

Get on qrewroom or slack. Venting here, whilst good therapy for you, achieves nothing.

....and yes, I’m on both those forums, with my real name and everything.

“You’re not the boss of us...”. How old are you? Six?

Sounds like a young child doesn’t he? Perhaps he is Gen ‘Y’ or ‘X’ or whatever they are called now? In my day as a crusty old Captain you wouldn’t see anything like this. Having a verbal tanty, offloading like an emotional basket case.
There is a place within the equilibrium of life for personal decision making, Group decision making, Unions and so forth. You just have to find your own position and stick to whatever your guiding principles in life are.

Oh good grief! When did a recommendation become an order. Once the righteous anger subsides you might discover that AIPA agree with you and you can sign what you want when you want but any consequences are all your own. Thats the world the grown ups live in.

I could launch into a history lesson about 1989 but I’ll resist the temptation. Suffice it to say that if you think you can negotiate a better deal by yourself , without representation , no understanding of the law , industrial relations , economic reality , let alone history, well , good luck with that.
Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Add the impetuousness of youth and you have a recipe for disaster.

ROH...we have had disagreements previously.

AIPA are not telling people how to vote. As my representative (are they yours?) I’m happy they pass their advice and recommendations to me. They have more legal, industrial information and knowledge of commercially sensitive information to warrant my attention. I may not follow their advice...that is my decision and right.

I respectfully think your point is misplaced, illogical, and perhaps most importantly, at odds with the majority of AIPA’s membership.

Sounds more like to me an attempt to discredit AIPA.

ROH probably put a minus sign in front of the 787 pay question in the AIPA survey. Do the rest of us a favour and quit to go fly the 350 so we can s*** list you and your B-scale mates.

I have no skin in the game, merely an interested observer. This in-fighting is EXACTLY what the employer wants to see. Show a united front on this one or your are doomed. Divide and conquer is an age old tactic and it has been proven to work.

Everyone (except management pilots) are showing a united front. There’s always an exception that proves any rule:)

s;;; list all you like. I couldn’t care less. When I’m still living in Oz getting paid $300,000 and you’re off trying to get contract work to save your over mortgaged, private school fee, fast car driving lifestyle, I’ll be having the last laugh.

I couldn’t care less if I was called a scab or on some “list” have the lives from those scabs in ‘89 been this spiral hell or have they just got on with life?

thought so.

Well your points are completely ridiculous.

We will be recommending in the strongest possible terms that members vote no.

wrong AIPA. You speak on BEHALF of us. You are NOT our voice.

if we as pilots decide that the deal suits us, our lifestyle and pay, then WE not you, WE will vote as WE see fit.
It’s a recommendation, that's their job. They have not filled in your ballot paper for you. You can make whatever decision you want.

When presented with significant cuts to our terms and conditions it is AIPA’s duty to recommend its members vote no.

Not sure what your point is with the SH award but AIPA negotiated an improved EA (not as good as we’d have liked) on top of the 3% annual pay rise. Now Qantas are offering LH a 3% pay rise MINUS night credits, 50% of overtime, ability to transfer fleets, etc. and you think they should recommend a Yes vote???

and you think they should recommend a Yes vote???

The irony here, is that if AIPA had recommended a YES vote, this thread would have never been started....

Hence my point is the purpose of thread was to discredit AIPA, because of differing opinions. The argument AIPA shouldn’t be recommending a vote one way or the other is a sideshow.

ROH111 you have an opinion and voice which is yours. The advantage of posting on a different forum is that you are (hopefully) forced to engage your brain and embarrassing threads like this are never started.

Haha - ohh buddy... No mortgage here - isn't that the whole point of working for QF? Get paid more than your pathetic B-scale and retire ASAP?

Enjoy spraying your heart attack medication under your tongue at age 70 on the 737 you hero!

Yikes, this is almost unhinged. Go get some independent legal and/or life management advise ASAP.

Or maybe this is a wind-up ? Can’t be serious can it ?

You reckon you’ve made it on $300kpa! Oh dear! If you do (and you live in a major Australian City) you either have no idea or you simply are not giving the problem your full attention!

Funny:)

This isn’t about crew/airlines or even the fact those taking millions in bonuses from cuts staff have taken will argue tooth and nail for more because they can’t survive. I’m amazed someone can think $300kpa has ‘made it’.

Car loan $18,000
School fees x 2? $70,000
Mortgage $1.5’m (5% I/O) $75,000
Rates/insurance on house. $10,000

That’s a total of $173,000pa

Based in Oz your net income on your ‘made it’ salary of $300kpa is $185,903pa (9.5% Super)

Give or take a bridge toll or two and that’s $10kpa to live on....

Your fast driving lifestyle on flying that WILL kill you early (though that puts the finances more in your favour - die at 60, you haven’t got to pay for too much living) will have to be done on $10kpa - that’s for food, petrol for the go fast car (or electricity) and I’m assuming you may have to impress a partner with a bottle of wine once every anniversary or so.

I don’t care whether people are happy on $50k or $5m (and I suspect those on $50 might be happier) but if you for one second describe $300kpa in those terms then you simply do not understand the problem....
