It’s been 15 years since I completed my own modular training. I’ve been asked by a friend, what is the present route modular wise.

Can anyone please tell me all the requirements regarding hours, time limits and sitting numbers to complete a modular route to a frozen ATPL EASA license in the UK.

Get a class one medical
Get a PPL
Get 100 hours PIC for CPL
Get 200 hours total for CPL issue
You'll need 50 hours cross country for the IR
14 ATPL exams, you can do full time in 6 months or part time over longer (or shorter!)
You have 6 sittings to get them all passed
18 month time limit from first to last
You can attempt each subject 4 times
Once passed, they are valid for the following time limits:
CPL - 36 months
IR - 36 months
ATPL - a rolling 7 years from date of last IR
FI - unlimited
First MP type - unlimited

So many ways to put the pieces together depending upon budgets and commitments and regulatory body - so what’s your preference (rhetorical).

If DD Junior (for example) wanted to go down this road, I’d certainly say part time whilst working but the paths would be something like... (UK CAA)...

PPL
Night/IMCR/ATPL TK
hourbuild to IR start
CBIR SE
hourbuild to CPL start
ME Class
CPL
ME IR Upgrade
MCC (APS/JOT)
