Do Captains and companies consider it safe to fly in Iranian airspace? Do Captains have the freedom to refuse flying in that airspace?

Do Captains and companies consider it safe to fly in Iranian airspace? Do Captains have the freedom to refuse flying in that airspace?
Many airlines are now avoiding Iraqi and Iranian airspace. Most European airlines, QANTAS, etc. The FAA has prohibited US airlines from flying there.
Some Middle East airlines may still be using that airspace, especially Qatar, which is basically prohibited from flying over the Arabian peninsula due to a political dispute with Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
