A friend messaged me about this a little while ago. To say I am in shock is an understatement.

Very sad. I just heard it on the news. A tragedy indeed, father and son taken by a terrible fire.
Sincere sympathy to Helen and family.

Epitome of an oldschool Gentleman. Did have the honour of sharing the flight deck with him a few times. Blue skies mate. RIP :(

Thank you to the administrators for cleaning up the unnecessary posts on this topic. It has been a tough period for SA and the loss of Dick Lang and his son has disturbed so many of us.

A sad day for the Lang family.

His ability to know every passenger by name and a few of their personal details (home town, etc) by morning tea on the first day of a tour was incredible. Once, he accidentally broadcast his Lake Eyre commentary for passengers on air rather than within the aircraft for his passengers only. When somebody chipped him on it, his response was "Well, I hope you fellows learned something!"
