Due to be in RAF Brize Norton in September, have been told by one person that jacket&tie is required, however mate says when he was there poloshirt&chinos was the norm.

Also, if im bringing the car, is there much to go and see in local area?

Thanks

The norm is "something with a collar and trousers" or as appropriate for females.
Jeans from "happy hour" (although it's not that happy) until cop Sun are OK, as are tailored shorts at weekends etc...

The only time you need jacket and tie is during formal functions, visits etc..

As for a car, there are tons of good local pubs/restaurants to go to, but there is a good bus service to Oxford which runs about every half an hour. The last bus home from Oxford is past midnight on a thur/fri/sat (certainly last time I caught it). A taxi is about £30. Cheltenham is a good crack too, but taxi's are a little more.

Enjoy your visit.

Definitely worth bringing the car Steve.

Brize is on the edge of the Cotswolds. Our American cousins pay out large sums of money to get to tour this area. It would be a shame for you to miss it when it's right on your doorstep.

Look up places like Burford, Moreton-in-Marsh or Bourton-on-the-Water on Google. Burford is ten minutes by car but there is no bus service.

There are some great pubs on the banks of the Thames but a lot of them are not on bus routes.

Going to BZN by choice ?

I thought that the Officer's Mess at BZN was purely to stop the noise of departing tankers disturbing the residents of Carterton.

The people of Carterton welcome the roar of the mighty Conway. The vibrations linger long after the VC10 has arrived on station in Area 5.

I have often woken early in the morning and thought, 'there goes the Cannon Ball:confused: , how I love the RB211'! It would be better if the Mess were demolished and I could hear even more take-offs and landings.

Sad about the jeans and shorts, but sic transit gloria mundi.

PS. ScottishSteve, do not go to Swindon. It isn't worth the petrol.
