Not a pretty day do be flying a helicopter, skip to 2.40 minutes in the video to see the 109 taking off.

A video showed how planes and helicopters navigated strong winds at Newcastle Airport yesterday, with one helicopter blown sideways as the pilot attempted a take off during Storm Atiyah which brought 80mph winds.

Isn't every take off an attempted take off? What on earth were they doing on a runway in the first place?

Ah the Daily Grail!!

Couldn't find anywhere that EGNT ever experienced 80 MPH winds yesterday.

40 knots is only about 46 MPH - nearly an exaggeration of 100% !!

Nothing to see here. Average day for a lot of people.EGNT 101720Z 27027G40KT 9999 -RA FEW015 BKN030 08/06 Q0988=

Current type cant be started or stopped above 50 knots is my first limitation. After that there are no more that I can see. Its only wind.

Typical Daily Mail - no story there at all, just a bunch of pilots doing their jobs well.

Newcastle like you to operate off the runway when it doesn’t effect traffic flow

Nothing too exciting; even the birds weren’t walking.

To be fair, It wan't saying there were 80mph at the airport, but somewhere in the country in general.
