Hi, after some advice on whether the grass is greener on the other side.
I achieved my CPL ME/IR back in 2007 and went into ppl instructing due to the recession and no opportunity for a commercial airline job.
I have continued flying, with part time instructing.
With the upturn in the market i wonder if its worth giving it a shot again, my atpl credits have gone and IR, so I'd have to resit and get the IR valid.
I'm 43 and in a stable well paid job, so is it really worth the risk? I guess only I can answer that.
My dream has been flying commercially, but is it really that good, or is the reality different ?

Short answer is no.

33 is to old for some companies if you dont already have some turbo prop or jet time. Plenty of people will come on here and say they know somebody who got hired at Easy on his 50th bday blah blah. These things happen rarely.
With the amount of airlines going out of business in Europe right now I would stay in your current job.

Getting a new IR is not a risk...if money is not a problem do it.
Anyway the "upturn" was two years ago, not now.

But when will be the new upturn? :)
If I understand well it is cycling and now it is not recruiting much. Can we therefore suppose in 1 or 2 years again we can have a new vague?
