Reluctant to enter US airspace in view of the modus operandi at LAX?

Because from when the flight was more or less midway between Iceland and Greenland it went out of range of ground based ADSB tracking stations. It stayed out of range until over Saskatchewan, west of a place named Flin Flan (seriously!). Look at planefinder now and you can see where the track becomes a series of dots and then, when being tracked again, it turns to a solid blue line.

KelvinD,

You obviously can't tell your "a"s from your "o"s! ;)

It's actually Flin Flon, a Manitoba mining town. It's not an Aboriginal name as you might assume. It's named after a character in a book - Flintabbatey Flonatin!

I know Flin Flon sounds funny to Brits, but then I have to explain to my Canuck friends that names like Bryants Bottom, Pishill, The Wallops and The Slaughters are not joke names!

IndiaFourTwo: You are so right. I posted a response earlier this morning but now I find it has "disappeared". I have had a few replies to posts disappear into a vacuum with no apparent reason. In my missing response I agreed with your comments re UK place names and mentioned I live near places named Kings Furlong and Farleigh Wallop!

We had a Canadian Nav on Beverleys who was from Flin Flan/Flon and on some evacuation in the 60’s out of the Congo, an evacuee recognising his Canadian accent asked where he was from. Coincidentally the evacuee was from the same place.
