I see a piece about RAF Linton-on-Ouse featured on tonight's BBC 1 Inside Out magazine programme for the Yorkshire area.
Sad that the base is due to close soon after some 50 yrs of training aircrew.....Talking of which, it was 50 yrs ago on 17 October this week that I got my Wings there, after being on 4 Cse. Stn Cmdr was ex Britannia Gp Cpt John Lewis and OC 1 Sqn was Sqn Ldr Mike Smith. and Sqn Ldr Bob (Clump) Olding MC was our Mentor for becoming perfect officers ! Vince O'Sullivan and Joe Whitfield were my QFIs.
4 Cse experienced the final Royal Navy fixed-wing pass-out Wings parade earlier that year in 1969.
Read much about slightly later courses on Prune a few years ago but wonder who is still around from 4 Cse.

Hard to believe it’s only 50 years of training... they seemed to have been around for ages when I started taking an “interest” in the 70s.

Some fond memories of Linton as both a “Spacey“ and adult. Was there when Hussein hit Kuwait.

I thought it was a training base for longer than 50 years. Wikipedia says 1957. Is that correct?

It's rather more than 50 - 1 FTS celebrated its 50th year at Linton in 2007.

Joe Whitfield is still alive and well: when the government allows, he’s the Head Gardener at his local pub.

If anyone knows a more comprehensive account of this event....?
