"Linate Airport, in Milan, closes today for three weeks while maintenance work is carried out. It will remain shut through August 26. Flights to and from the northern Italian city are being handled by either Milan Malpensa or Bergamo airports.

The airport is advising passengers to contact their airlines for further information about rescheduling and has temporarily closed its web site. During the shut down work will be carried out on runways, passenger areas and security systems.

Linate is the most convenient of the Milan airports, located only 4.5 miles from the city center. The two alternatives on offer are much further from Milan, but Malpensa has a high speed rail link which involves a 40 minute journey.

Malpensa handles the majority of international flights for Milan, but Linate's heavy commitment to services between major Italian cities makes it the most popular airport with domestic travelers."
