Hi PPruners one and all,

Having just got back from Ireland (thanks to all those who contributed suggestions on that request!), the receptionist at our last hotel suggested we visit her homeland of Croatia.

I've been doing some investigation and the idea of taking a boat to dance round the islands sounds quite tempting. At the moment we have no specific plans beyond this:

- Just the wife and I (I don't think we'd be able to tolerate the presence of my parents again)
- Probably back end of next September as it'll be my wife's birthday

Neither of us have any sailing/yachting experience or qualifications so we'd need someone to operate the boat. So the main thrust of my questions is as follows:

- Should we hire our own boat + skipper (more expensive) or join a slightly larger (more organised) tour? Most of the organised tour boats I've looked at take about 30 people.
- Sailboat or motorboat?
- How much would be considered reasonable for crew costs etc.?
- Anything I haven't thought of? (answer: lots!)

I may tack on a couple of days either / each end to visit e.g. Split / Dubrovnik as well.

Obviously the advantage of being just the two of us on the boat is no annoying other guests ;) and we can do pretty much what we want.

Over to you...

I think your question would be better asked in JetBlast, rather than here. There was a long thread there recently on a similar topic.

Most boats are sail powered
Why not try a flotilla where you will have a lead crew to keep an eye on you plus a social scene
Sunsai are the major UK operator plus several others
