One quarter of our (U.S.A.'s) Air Mobility Command's Hercules fleet.

Cracking Found (https://www.defensenews.com/air/2019/08/08/air-force-pauses-flight-ops-for-more-than-a-hundred-c-130s-after-atypical-cracking-found/)

A strong, worthy, valuable, and long-time participant in our air strength. Almost as old as I at 70!

It affects 123 Aircraft and results from a single aircraft being found to have cracks.

Repair parts are in stock in sufficient quantities to complete repairs for the entire fleet that is suspect.

Repair time is estimated at approximately one month per aircraft.

The inspection process takes about eight hours.

Was sat in a Herc prior to engine start at Travis Xmas 1967 bound for Elmendorf only to be told flight was cancelled because of a crack found in the spar. Boarded another Herc bound for Boston only to end up in Columbus due snow storms at Boston. Learnt how damn cold it is to travel in the back of a Herc in the middle of the night, fortunately it had litters having done a medevac from Vietnam, so we travelled in some comfort. Spent a wonderful leave travelling the US courtesy of Navy and Air Force transport flights, C-130, C-121, C-97, C-131.
