Local television text in N.Ireland is reporting that MYT are to begin low cost flights from BHX to BFS and other European destinations this Autumn, with the official announcment being made Wed. If this is the case it will be interesting to see how this will effect the BA/BFS and the BHD/BE routes to the same destination.

This story can also now be found on the BBC news website in the N.Ireland section.

MY friends in the north tell me that the Maersk flights from Bhx to Bfs are to stop in the near very near future leaving MYT head to head with FLYBE . With BE already under pressure on some of their NI routes this can`t be great news for them.
What type will MYT operate?

A320, A321, A330, B757, B767, DC10.
39 aircraft in the UK this summer.

The UK fleet consists of 28 Narrow Bodies and 11 Wide bodies

17 x A320
4 x A321
7 x 757
3 x 767-300
3 x DC10-10
1 x DC10-30
4 x A330-200

We can also use our Scandinavian Fleet of about 15 A/C

The low cost is starting from BHX with initially 2 A320's, then 4 by spring. However rumour has that when the fleet rollover starts in October (25 new Airbus mainly A321's) instead of giving the old ones back and swapping them for new (original plan) we will keep the older ones for the low cost and the new will go to the charter side.

Hope this helps (and hope it works!!)

Cheers O

All this talk of more aircraft, more routes etc... Then there must be talk of recruitment. Surely (don't call me Shirley) there cannot still be excess numbers of type rated crews they can take there pick from. I know new start up airlines want type rated to keep the training budget down but this isn't really a new airline is it?

Anyone got a name, number, address and e-mail address for the respective recruitment officer involved? I'm still looking for a job since losing mine last year.
Any help will be appreciated.

I wouldn't hold your breath if its recruitment you're waiting for. This venture is on the existing aoc. There is always a surplus of charter crews in winter anyway and they've already got around 30 cadets joining over the winter period too. If it goes to 5 a320's that may change a little next year.;)

Same boring destinations. Can't some low cost outfit start a BHX-MST service? In fact MST is ideally located for motorways to a host of destinations. Oh I guess I'll just have to start my own low cost. Look out for AVMANEXPRESS. Anyone have any Tristars to spare? ;) :D

It struck me when I saw the release on tv that they would be better off doing long haul lo cost; much less competition there than in the Euro lo cost market, and the Ryans, Easys etc wouldn't be able to touch them.

Roumers about that the MYT group will spare some bodies and birdies (the metal ones, not the fluff-heads) for winter lift in Canada, like Skyservice is doing for them in the summer.

...I hear Winnipeg is lovely :D in December... (although I hear it can be quite hot in the summer, mind you!)

MyTravel also plan on closing their Luton base from 31 Oct. That would release one A320 for use on the MyTravel Lite service.
