We made a big deal in 2003 about the 100th Anniversary of the first controlled flight of a powered heavier than air aircraft but is anyone in GA planning anything on 20th July 2019 (20:17 UTC)?

Surprised that there appears to be no interest from GA in marking this very significant aviation anniversary.

Nevertheless, I will try to be in the air in the Strathaven area at 21:17 local on Saturday.

Sorry to disappoint, but what aspect or event of private flying are you referring to?

? Alcock & Brown did the Atlantic mid June 1919 ?

That wasn't private flying... :)

I know the first manned moon landing on 20/7/1969 was not private flying but it was a magnificent event in aviation history.

All three astronauts on Apollo 11 were, of course, pilots, and Neil Armstrong was NASA's first civilian astronaut to fly in space.

PS Think we should also have done something to commemorate Alcock & Brown's epic flight. And although not exactly a private flight, because it was sponsored by Vickers, I think that neither Alcock nor Brown were still military pilots.

Attempting a first landing on Planet Earth? To be done by Student Pilots with an accompanying Instructor.

OK. Weather at Strathaven looking doable. Will try to land there at 21:17 local.

Managed to land at Strathaven on 20th July at 20:17 UTC.

I have nothing planned for today- the 110th anniversary of Louis Bleriot's cross Channel flight- though I see that someone did:

French inventor Franky Zapata has failed to fly a jet-powered hoverboard across the English channel.
