Hi,

I am currently flying corporate jets and have unexpectedly been offered an opportunity to upgrade to captain. Although I love what I am doing, I do want to get back to NZ/Aus, join an airline and settle down.
I have been exploring this option and do have an interview coming up shortly, but now I am a bit confused as to what to do.
With the industry the way it is do i try to get in now before the music stops or take the upgrade opportunity I have been offered?
Thanks

If you are ultimately wanting to settle down in NZ/Aus I would head back before the music stops.
The biz jet command wont help you achieve this, and from what I have observed the command time wont help get a rare DEC job here anyway.
Add to the that the golden handcuffs of the command and it makes sense to get back sooner rather than later.

On the other hand, the opportunities in the very small puddle that is AU/NZ aviation are very limited, "DEC" to much more than a Cessna 402 are, to say the least, severely limited ----- be very careful that your desire to come back here doesn't destroy a promising career.

Never sell your car, break up with your girl or quit your job until you’ve another lined up.

Apply for a job in Aus, take the upgrade and resign when you get the call.

Yep! Great way to treat the company that put their faith (and money) in you!

My two bobs worth,

Sounds like Corporate it is not what you want (I can understand that), let the owner know where you are aiming to go, remain in the right seat and aim for the seniority list of the Airline company you want to be with.

There you go, integrity intact, and you also get where you want to be!!!!

Command time in a jet is command time in a jet..do a couple of years then head back..chances are you’ll be a second officer making beds in crew rest for a half dozen years once you do

Your airline career is very dependent on your seniority. Once you are in the system it is completely irrelevant what you have flown previously and in which seat you flew it from. Australia might be a small aviation puddle as expressed by some but if it is where you want to live then apply now. At the moment it will probably take a minimum of 12 months before you will be offered a position if you are successful.
