I think many of you will want to see this. In 1944/43, William Wyler shot the documentary film Memphis Belle. The outakes have now been found and restored with commentary by some veterans who were there. It is on in the cinemas in the UK on 4 July.

I watched it last night on Amazon Prime and thought it was very, very good. While it uses some footage from the documentary film Memphis Belle, it is not simply a restored version of that film. It goes way beyond that (IIRC, the original documentary was 30 minutes - this is well over an hour long and doesn't use significant portions of the documentary).
I've long been interested in the air war over Europe during WW II (going so far as taking a ride on the Collins Foundation B-17 'Nine-O-Nine' several years ago) yet I still learned some new things.

I've just returned from watching it on the big screen... Recommend it.

The scale and magnitude of the Air War (just out of the UK itself) by Allied Air Forces is hard to grasp.

Walking up the access path to the American Hangar at Duxford....and viewing all of the etched glass panels depicting the aircraft losses begins to demonstrate the cost in aircraft and lives.....and that is only for the American Air Force alone.

It is a humbling experience for sure.

We owe a great deal to the Men who rode to War on Wings during that conflict!

Glad you referred to 'Air Force(s)'. There's a current trend to use the horrifying new word 'airforce' on news websites and even in some of the promos for this film.

If it catches on, the RAF will have to become the Royal Airforce, which will really upset the Royal Artillery.

You in the USA? Can't see it in the UK. When worked in Chicago in 2001, Aluminum Overcast was doing a fundraising tour, so got a flight when it went to Aurora. What an experience.
When the remake of Memphis Belle came out, I won 1st prize in a competition by Warner Bros/BBC. Saw the world Royal premiere of the film in London then flew to LA then onto Memphis where I got a guided tour when it was at Mudd Island. Crawled round every part and managed to get into the ball turret - God knows how they endured that for hours on end. Took about 100 photos! Even got interviewed by CBS which was shown on TV - they kindly sent me a video of the interview along with footage of other B17 stuff. Also corresponded with Capt Morgan - thoroughly nice chap.

Yes, I'm in the US, but I thought Amazon Prime worked in Europe (granted, you need to be a member of Amazon Prime to use their streaming service). However it required the HBO option (extra cost - I'll pay for a month, but which time I'm sure I'll have watched everything that interests me on HBO then drop it before I have to pay the next months fee).

Can see it on amazon.com but not amazon.co.UK for some reason. Maybe not released in UK yet? I'll persevere! Thanks.
