View Full Version : Help deciphering maintenance records on a fan blade

I'm an aviation enthusiast. I bought a fan blade in hopes of turning it into a sclupture/conversation piece for my home. However, I am trying to see if I can't figure more info out about it. I was hoping a mechanic could help me out.
I currently have a fuselage window and know the tail number that the window came from, but I would like to know more about where this blade came from.
Is there any useful information included on the etchings of a fan blade? Can someone point me in the right direction? It's currently at a shop getting all polished up. I can't post photos because I am new member.
Manually etched are:
FRS 5708
FRS6955/1
FRS5712/4
TUR11-420P0
FRS6625
FRS5713
FRS5712/3
S/N GB73946
And some other specs that just appear to be numbers.

Hello George. The FRS numbers are repair schemes the blade has been subjected to during its life - RR perhaps?
The Serial number, whilst a unique identifier, is of little use without knowing the Engines the blade has inhabited during its life

Sounds like an Rolls-Royce RB211 fanblade. You have a list of repairs and a serial number. Is there a part number such as LK12345? UL12345 or similar?If so I can tell you the type of engine it came off.

It is actually a fan blade from a RB211-524G/H engine as fitted to 747-400 or 767-300 and many powerplant departments have one on show in their reception areas! They look good polished up. How did you get hold of it?

Thank you so much! I found it on eBay, of all places. I have been looking for a 747 style blade for quite some time! It's so cool!
How much was it? We used to joke about the trade of aircraft parts on Ebay.

It was a couple hundred bucks. Too cool to pass up for someone who otherwise has no access to this stuff.

A couple of hundred bucks! They were worth in excess of $30k each when in service!
