A USMC Harrier crashed in the vicinity of its base at MCAS Cherry Point in eastern North Carolina today....pilot ejected and was taken to hospital to determine what injuries (if any) he sustained.

The crash ignited a small fire that was safely extinguished.

Good to see the pilot walking and talking shortly after the ejection. According to a witness report in the link below he indicated to her he was fine, and had ejected about 45 minutes into the flight.

Cherry Point and the surrounding woods have collected a good many Harriers over the decades.

I am treated to overflights by USMC aircraft from Cherry Point and MCAS New River ....Cherry Point is one of the places I go to do my grocery shopping.

Thus far it always been over flights with no excitement.

Every now and then I have some fun by twirling an IR Chem Light on the end of a piece of paracord......and have attracted some Moths to the flame!

I keep waiting to have a couple of Marines or NCIS Goons show up on my doorstep.

They would be welcome....and the NCIS guys and I could talk of old times and places.

Between Cherry Point with Harriers and Luke with F16 there’s quite the parts collection available.

Small parts albeit.
