View Full Version : Looking for advice on Global 6000

Spent the last week reading some presumably "first hand experience" opinions and comparisons concerning Global 6000. My boss want to have one for his expanding business and while my desire is to hire a professional and independent consultant, I still need to provide him with some real world data. As said: he looks into Global 6000, second hand 1-2 years old, preferably with EU registration, nevertheless he is partially open to other aircraft covering the same overall capability: I guess this could be 7X and G550?
Can you give me some clues what to look for in terms on avionics equipment and passenger's area options, which is nice to have and which is compulsory? Where is a decent maintenance facility for these big birds-I guess not LBAS ?:)
Some recent observations/opinions on never stopping 7X updates are also welcomed.
I would also need a proven and independent consultant/ pre-purchase inspector fro this kind of plane-could you recommend such a company? I am by no means expert in spending 30 + Millions EU , I do however need to complete what I was asked for.

Thank you!

Hi all
Sorry to hijack your thread, although it's about the global 6000 so not that bad. I just couldn't find a way to post a new thread on pprune.
Are there any global 6000 drivers out there who can help regarding PFD indications on the Global, particularly VPATH and LNV2 both in green, please?
Thank you all for any help, much appreciated

VPATH is an FMS driven mode, so not available 'in the green' - if thats what you mean. Not sure what you mean by LNV2, but feel free to pm.

A 550 will go farther than a 6000 which will in turn go farther than a 7X. The 6000 is the fastest of the bunch. Most 550s have the galley in the back between the passenger lavatory and the passenger cabin while the 6000s have the galley forward by the boarding door. I'm not that familiar with the 7x. There are more used 550s out there for purchase and more type rated 550 pilots than on other 2 so it would probably be easier to get and easier to crew. As far as cabin lay out goes, they will all probably be arranged in 3 separate passenger zones. There is an almost infinite amount of configurations available for the passenger area, but most common will have a state room with a couch that converts into a bed along with 2 seats opposite that face each other. There will also most likely be center section with either 4 seats club style with a table between and a credenza opposite them or 2 more seats instead of the credenza that allows for a table that seats 3 per side in flight for meals or conferences. The forward passenger section will most likely have 4 seats in a club configuration. Another thing you will want to think about is internet capability and CPDLC already installed. You will most likely want KA band internet and that is not cheap to install and it is also very expensive to use. That said, business now almost always demands high speed internet at all times and if that is needed, it must be accounted for beforehand. Good luck.

Er no. The G550!and G6000 have the same top speed. Also the majority of G550s have forward galleys not aft.

the Global has the bigger cabin

the G550 is more reliable and has more range.

basically the best way to think of it is comparing a nissan with a Mercedes.. Nissan good, but it’s no merc.

Technically the Global is faster- .89 vs .885. I also believe that typical cruise speed is higher in the 6000 at .85. They both have the same long range cruise speed of .80. I did say that the 550 had the longest range. I have only seen how NetJets 50+ Gulfstreams over the years have had the galley in the back so I will admit I could be wrong on the typical gallery location. As far as the Nissan vs Mercedes comparison goes I'll have to disagree. I'd go with BMW vs Mercedes. Both have plusses over the other in other areas as well. It boils down to individual tastes. Gulfstream is definitely better at branding their airplane and selling it, but that doesn't make it better for everyone.

If I were trying to decide what to buy used for a business, I'd probably go with the 550 of the 3 based on airframe availability, crewing availability, reliability, and more access to maintenance. The 6000 and 7x are great machines with their own advantages, but operating them from those important factors that the 550 has the advantage on will simply be more difficult and probably more expensive.
