What security software do I require for an iMac please?

Aaron,

The short answer is none. I’ve been using Macs since 1989 (System 6) and I have never used any kind of security software and have never had any problems.

However, there are different points of view:

Having read the article, I haven’t changed my opinion. The key is to be very careful with what you load on your computer, particularly email attachments.

Rather than spend money on anti-virus software, I would spend it on a password manager (1Password) and a good VPN (NordVPN). That would buy you much more security.

No need to spend money on either :). Avast free is available for Mac, it is all most users should ever need and I have been using LaastPass free version on both Mac and Windows for many years and found it to be perfectly adequate for my needs. In my experience the paid versions of these utility programs usually just add more bloatware that most users do not need.

If Safari starts acting funny(opening tabs with strange websites) download and run Malwarebytes:
https://www.malwarebytes.com

Apart from that. not much else is needed. Unless you run Windows. Then, of course, you'll be open to all Windows viruses.
