Management have a longer view than the pilots. They knew HKE might become part of the group so POS18, with the support of the GC, was an attempted to align pilot packages.

So, will DPA and AOA invite HKE pilots into the tent?

if you look at what has happened at SQ, their growth has been anaemic for the last 10 years, whereas Scoot/ Tiger have grown massively. Good chance CX will now do the same

I didn’t think that DPA and AOA were even occupying the same tent? Same circus, different big tops though.

Precisely, HKE will get KA’s A321NEOs and KA’s pilots will be gradually merged into the joint CX/KA A330 operation to help with pilot shortage at both airlines. Pressure on expats will continue in the form of third world pilots at HKE, many commuting in from elsewhere in SE Asia. Welcome to the LCC world!!!

The Jetstarisation of CX has begun. New routes which won't support a full service airline could be opened up and marginal current routes could be transferred. When are the B787s coming for the long haul routes ?

But they have been saying for years that they don’t have any money , the situation was dire, the sky was falling , the company was in peril if the pilots didn’t take a pay cut . Now suddenly they found that they had sufficient money in the kitty to buy another airline . You couldn’t make this stuff up

They did lose a bunch of money and leverage the balance sheet... with their insane fuel hedges!!! Now they are going to load up with even more debt to fund this (mis-)adventure. What makes them think they can manage a LCC any better than they can run their fuel hedges?

Ya know, if I'm stuffing money away in a mattress or account I own -- claiming to my wife for years I'm losing money and we're barely getting by -- and then somehow begin making money and run out and buy a new car she knows pretty much immediately my scam.

And she's ALSO smart enough not to let me cut HER household operation budget because of woes I might claim that she knows are not true.

I had expected more of well educated technical operators.

The Line Pilots will be retained because THEY are needed. Assuming their standards are sufficient I guess.

The Management will all be fired.
And good riddance.

KC and the Sunshine Band are next in line.

I have been told by a reliable source that Hainan was forced by the THB to sell express and cargo. They cannot hold more than one AOC in HK any more. They will have to sell part of HKA as well I have been told. I am not sure what you are on about AdB29. You may be doing the same job as us, but not to the same standard. This of course does not make you less of a human being though. But if you think that just because you do the same job, and have a training department with a 10 year legacy, that you have reached maturity and clarity as an organisation, which plays any significance in improving and innovating your pilots standards you are delusional. Grow up and accept, that though adequate you are not raising your standards. Cathay has and is training to 1st class standards. We are better pilots than you lot because we are cohesive, committed, and have the same operational values and beliefs. You guys are a disjointed bunch of mercenaries, not career seekers. Unfortunately our management do not see the benefit of having career pilots rather than mercenaries.

HFP, your mum not hug you when you were a child or something? Did your parents take the “let him cry it out” method to an extreme?

As far as HKE goes, welcome to the club boys and girls. Don’t forget to invite us to some of those BBQ’s you’ve been known to organise. We’ll undoubtedly have plenty to discuss.

Our friend HFP and his kind will bring plenty of salt to go around for everyone.

Unfortunately, HFP has a point.

For example - the HKA service to CNS.
Due to repeated navigation errors on the STAR to RWY15 the company received a warning from the CASA that they would be barred from the airport if they did it again. This occurred in spite of senior pilots informing the FOP Manager responsible that there was an FMS database problem (which he ignored, as is his habit, until the SHTF).

Their solution afterward was to make all pilots sign a piece of paper in ABO saying they knew about the Database issue in CNS and promised not to do it again.

Its a joke of a company, with an FOP run by a bunch of careerist jokers.

Means exactly what it says!
Now that you feel better about yourself, Captain, why don’t you try to answer the question!!
It would be interesting to see how many nationalities, like the ones employed by HKE, are present at Cathay?

Was that enough to stroke your big ego, or would you prefer to be addressed as Commander?
(How’s that for sarcasm)

4.93 (http://www3.hkexnews.hk/listedco/listconews/SEHK/2019/0327/LTN20190327213.pdf4.93) billion HKD for a company losing money and with assets of 1 billion. Sweet. As at 31st December 2018, the net asset value attributable to the HKE Interest was approximately HK$1,119 million.

For the year ended 31st December 2018, the unaudited net losses before and after taxation attributable to the HKE Interest were approximately HK$141 million and HK$141 million respectively.

It is simply about the gaining of extra slots at a growth constrained HKIA and to garner favour with the SAR gov, never mind the other factors.

Not only this but Slosar wouldn’t care if the company was shrinking, he was desperate for a LLC no matter what the cost. Now he can stepdown as chairman knowing he has monopolised the HK market

So....now I know where my expected profit share went. Once again, the "little airline that cried poor". Disgusting, shameless and more evidence that we work for the biggest group of narcissists in the industry. Shameless. Please, John, don't have Rupert make any more "we're so poor" speeches. Getting a bit tired of listening to the same broken record. Most of us are leaving anyway so at least we won't have to listen to the same rubbish for much longer.

I might also add that this quite possibly confirms the end of any career prospects at CX. They now have Dragon and Express to grow throughout Asia and the region, leaving CX as their neglected overseas carrier. I expect very little growth for CX, and most of it now going to their lower cost units. At the very least, they will use the threat of doing so as a way to drum down pay and conditions at CX (as if COS18 hasn't already put the nail in the coffin of a genuine career). Writing is on the wall IMHO.

4.93 BILLION Hkd? That has to be a typo error. For a failing, loss making airline swimming in a sea of debt with a flawed business plan , controlled by suspected incompetent management team? Surely some mistake? 4.93 Billion!!!!?

mngmt mole, you forgot Air Hong Kong.
Cathay now own 4 airlines. If you’re at all wondering which of the 4 are about to be plagiarized to support expansion at the others, look no further than CX’s revised training plan for this year.

Good! if it means not spending 48hrs in CGK or 7 days in HYD then bring on the shrinking. KA/HKE are welcome to take over those ports

Would this be the same cohesiveness as given to the 49'ers? Maybe that was too long ago.

Committed, maybe many like yourself should be with that attitude.

Mercinary, care to comment on how many different pay scales you have within the same pilot body at Cathay?

Not just for the last few years. Swire's have been pirates since they came to Hong Kong. Should be called Lack Sparrow not Swire.
