Having decided to undertake the CPL (CAA) I am intending to build up the hours either in South Africa or the US. I have heard conflicting reports however as to the view taken by prospective European employers about the 'quality' of hours flown. Namely, they would look more favourably upon a C.V with hours built in the JAR states. Can anyone shed any light?

Also can anyone point to any negative issues associated with carrying out the course abroad or whether obtaining the licence in a CAA Approved American school carries the same 'weight' as a licence obtained in the UK.

Or infact whether the confirmed acceptance by the CAA of the license is actually the case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't think it matters where you do your hour building, provided you do something useful and don't just fly around in circles. Have you ever thought of using the time productively and doing the IR? that way you getter better quality flight time and qualify in less hours.
