Why in God’s name are we reinventing the wheel yet again? Why couldn’t we have simply adopted WAAS ten years ago? Every ten cent gps has been WAAS capable for years.
There is something special about Australia; the laws of physics are different here; that requires bizarre Aviation regulations and bizarre technical solutions to address issues the rest of the world dealt with years ago.

So Sunny. Why is what is proposed here different? The US SBAS is known as WAAS. It does not have coverage here as we do not have the ground station infrastructure or satellite coverage from the WAAS satellites.

We did have the SBAS part of it years ago, but the satellite was moved east, because Australia never installed the necessary ground equipment --- SBAS and WAAS are two names for the same thing.
It's got me tossed why we are doing it now, with GPS III coming into service, plus existing services we have had for years (DGPS) there is no new benefit, except for aviation, and airlines are not interested, where necessary they can have GBAS.
The possible reductions in minima at certified/registered airfields, compared to current GNSS minima, is pretty limited, the possible reductions in the number of times an alternate is required is also of limited commercial use, outside of capital cities with serious HCRPT.
