737 type rated/ IR, need for separate SEP/IR?

Hi,

the topic pretty sums it up. Talking about EASA regulations, if someone in possesion of a freshly renewed 737 type rating with IR endorsement AND SEP without IR wants to grab a Cessna and fly instrumental on a rainy day, does he have to pass a separate SEP IR check or 737/IR covers it up?

Not quite, need a 'single pilot' IR rather than Multi pilot.

IIRC there used to be provision that it could happen if the TRE was suitably qualified but not sure whether I am remembering the full story...

And THIS ^^^ is what’s so completely stupid about EASA.
Under FAA an Instrument rating is an Instrument rating and you get it after your Private.

Possibly.
Check your license. If it has a SEP IR with an expiry date, then you are good to go. If this is missing, then legally no IR with a SEP. Without a SEP rating no legal flying either. All you need to do is go to an ATO and have then do an assessment flight and then you can do an examination. If you are lucky, then maybe the FI is also an FE and you can do both in one flight.
