Waiting time for Canaries base in Ryanair Captain

Can anyone tell me how long I would be waiting for a base in the Canaries if I join Ryanair as a Captain now?

Quite a while I imagine, lots of people internally want to work there, plus they are threatening to close down one of them, I think ACE? So those people will probably want to try and get into tfs. Not sure if the closure threat is real, but it was a threat to the chain crew that if they did not sign a pay deal by feb, the base would close...

its impossible to say, once the new seniority system for base transfers moves from date of request to date of entry you could actually find yourself moving down the list as new upgrades etc would come in ahead. There’s some talk in these bases of downsizing which wouldn’t help either, so the only way to be sure is if that’s the base offered on your contract

Unions drive seniority lists, as well as agree with company the order in which pilots are allocated on the list.
Unsure what the details are, so cannot comment, though I think it would be negative for new entrants and upgrades to get priority over long serving captains.

This was in the paper last week I think, follows on from reports in another paper the week before of a plane
being removed from ACE and LPA this summer.

A lot of ex Ryanair pilots returning from Jet2 speaks volumes about your particular company too. I’ve seen their rosters both summer and winter, the lack of weekends off they have (2 per month in Ryanair) and the many assessed “as a body” sim sessions they end up with in LBA. The endless sitting in a taxi or renting a car from base to base.

I am not one bit surprised they are coming back. Some of them are paying off their RATED bonds to get out of Jet2 and return to Ryanair. That shows you how desperate they are to get out of Jet2.

Some of the things I hear first hand from DEC is interesting in so many ways.
First: If You do not have it in a contract form or some sort of signed agreement, forget it!
Grown men spending months of work to do an OCC just to find out things has " changed" when they are released for normal line flying.
Then eventually just handing in the resignation.Odd.
And this is recently or now, when RYR can do what they want with regards to Base assignment.
There just is NO rime or reason the way some cases are treated.
Never mind when You start at the bottom , were you belong as the new man in town, or nr 5599 on the list! ( If everyone wants Canary Base)
One of the reasons I never got around to talking with Norwegian as it would take me until age 64 to get Stavanger or Bergen base, I figured.
Anyway
Good to have predictable rules and most RYR pilots are looking forward to this,as there is a fair amount of Captains and FOs that are tired of seeing DEC cheating on the transfer list.

Oh , and one last little question to anyone of You that are younger than , say 45: RYR , 737-800 for the next 20 years,is that all you are good for? Be a bit more ambitious! Everyone are hiring now, and anyone gets hired in RYR!

I am only interested in the well being of Pilots and I see a lot of stuff in most company's.
Treat the Flightdeck good and You have a chance of a Safe and Efficient operation , long term.
Not telling You how to run recruitment ( could if You are interested, been there done that!)
I am just observing that You left the OutFlowValve in the open position so to speak!

Seeing ryr recruitment brag that they interview over 2000 pilots....you can drill a bit deeper...

thats about half their current workforce!! Not something that is worth bragging about! Yes they are expanding, but to have to replace such a huge number is not a good thing...!

And of that 2000 candidates, they hire about 800 cadets, and by their own admission its around a 50% pass rate for cadets, so thats 1600 cadets interviewed...(at 300e a pop remember..!!) so that leaves only 400 rated/experienced pilots.

Ryr is without doubt, one of the safest financially stable airlines, a great roster, great colleagues, huge variety of bases yet it is still very much the bottom of most pilots wish list. Most of the experienced candidates are from far flung parts of the world, not your usual household name airlines.

A good indicator is how many pilots go to ryr from the likes of BA,Easy,Thomson,Lingus etc. Crews leaving in droves to these companies. Even new bonded cadet fo’s are shortly off to transavia! Dozens upon dozens have left to join ez, not one the other direction. For ultimately an identical career, this should raise alarm bells for HR.

It could, and should be the employer of choice, the european version of SW. It would smash all competition out the water, in terms of profits, sales, rentention of staff etc. The AGB program needs to change gear significantly, and look internally as well, change its dna to make it the company that so many of their staff really do want it to become! There are two parts of the equation to having the correct man power, staff in and staff out!

Stop the staff out part, the staff in part becomes a lot easier as you need less recruits and word gets out that it is the career airline of choice and the queue for staff in will grow significantly.
