Does anyone know how long it typically takes for them to assess a Class 2 Medical?

Its been 6 weeks now and not a squeak. Should I be paranoid?

Call AVMED and they'll usually hurry yours up and get it done within a couple of days.

Mine took about 6 weeks. Leading into Christmas, I had given up hope. Then the morning of Christmas eve, I got the email with the Class 1 inside.

Seems to depend on the DAME. Some are really good at getting everything correct up front, others takes days/weeks to complete the submission/coding process, then it takes CASA even longer. Also, will take longer (maybe much) if there's anything "unusual" which has to go to the CASA medical specialist - even if it's not a problem - just getting through the specialists' paperwork queue takes weeks!

I've had them take many weeks, but the last couple (different DAME) when through almost instantly!

9-Nov-2018 Saw my DAME. I had done the online stuff well beforehand.
Was issued an interim certificate immediately which covered me until 15-Jan-2019 (mine was expiring 15-Nov)
3-Dec-2018 Email from Avmed with my new Class 2.
So, just under a month. FWIW

From memory their service charter is 3 weeks. Once they are outside the service charter, ringing them and speaking sternly gets pretty good results.

My DAME is a stickler and I also know she submitted everything to CASA the next day... I.e. 6+ weeks ago.

Maybe it’s because this is an initial Class 2. My last CASA medical, a Class 1, was in 1998. Who knows.

I have written to them and received wonderfully polite and encouraging replies stating their caseload was very high sadly there was no prediction of likely times. Hence, I’m asking what everyone else has been experiencing.

Not so sure a phone call will help, I suspect that it may well end up pushing my file to the bottom of the stack....yet again

I will be sorry to learn if it’s true that a phone call, as suggested by a previous poster, will actually expedite one’s assessment - this would explain my my now 6 week and counting wait.

Interestingly, buried within CASA’s website is a page detailing their projected duration for medical assessments ... which is 20 working days and the statistics for last year which was 24 working days, on average.

It depends if there’s anything in there at all of concern. If it has to be reviewed by their doctors it may add many weeks, however if it’s a clean sheet, it’s pretty much tick and flick. The issue is not knowing what constitutes it needing to be reviewed by their WFH Doctors.

I had a minor shoulder operation nearly 2 years earlier and unfortunately that triggered the review process and hence the associated delays.

My last Class 2 renewal a number of years ago was handled extremely well by CASA. My recent Class 2 renewal lodged under exactly the same circumstances appears to have turned into a fiasco.
