Just want to say thanks to the Typhoon 3 ship formation that banked right over my house just South of Leeming this afternoon! I have to say, every bit as impressive as the Tornado 3 ship over Leeming on Tuesday. What a joy to see.....in fact Leeming has been crazy today so I didn't get as much work done as I'd have liked! Many thanks ladies and gents....magnificent! :ok:

I wouldn't plan on getting much work done for the next couple of weeks. They are at Leeming for quite a while.
I did manage to pop up and get some photos today.

That'll be the three ship that had my mother cowering under the patio table....much to my fathers amusement!:ok:

One thing that I found odd, but is apparently common practice, was when they overshoot into the circuit they keep the gear down. In all my time I had never seen that before and my first thought was there was a snag. I suppose it was working with Jags which HAD to put the gear up just to achieve circuit height

Would they exceed any circuit speed limitation if they raised the undercarriage? I noticed that they appear to be in no hurry to raise the u/c after take off.....is that a safety thing though? Just thinking about some of the very "sporty" retractions I've seen!:D

We are just not used to seeing an RAF aircraft with plenty of performance available on take off!

I am certainly no expert but I have it from reliable sources that the gear down limit is quite high so no need to retract it in any hurry. As Timelord says, even on one donkey, there is plenty of umph available for it not to be a problem.

290 is the limit for the gear. SOP to leave it down for circuits .

These would be the Typhoons that departed Lossie on 21st shortly after the Tornado farewell flypast. Anybody any idea why they are at Leeming and for how long?

They were indeed ALU.
They are part of a forthcoming exercise so, expect around two weeks at Leeming.
