Judging from the size of the wing, grease on the leading edge and no wing tip thingys, I'd say a B737.

B717. Gutsy departure or GA maybe?

Not many 737’s without winglets operating into YSSY and I don’t see an engine pylon so I’d guess it’s a 717 also.

Great photo.
Not trying to be smart, but I wonder if this is a Shelf Cloud, rather than a Roll Cloud.

What time was that photo taken OP?

I was paxing in from Melb on VA863 (usually arrives 1755 EDST) but figured with the storms forecast there would be some shenanigans. View out the window was interesting...crew did very well to get it in between lots of build up and cells, landed just as the storm struck the field...don't think there were any arrivals or perhaps departures after that for a while.

Yep that’s a DC-9 Wing, I recognize it anywhere.......( ok now they call it a 717, but it’s a DC-9 )

Rolled off the Boeing production line at Renton without winglets - August 07, 2003

16 years old...Ahh...future Tigerair aircraft then.

For a prop driver - taken on a right downwind or after takeoff?

taken on a right downwind or after takeoff? If the plot Trent has put up at #17 is correct my guess is during the right turn after a go around from an approach to 34.
