Cranwell Spin Table

Looking at the thread on acclimatizing pilots to G force, it reminded of the delightful time in 1978 when I was sent to Cranwell to be “de-sensitized” for the air sickness I was suffering on AEW Shacks. Oh the joy of being spun in a sealed box twice a day to the point of almost being ill.......Then a few trips in a JP with Wing Commander Marshall, the literal flying doctor. Back to Shacks, still sick, so posted to Victors - okay on them. As I was a Henlow graduate this experience may have coloured my view of the College of Knowledge.....

Sometime after 1978, it was moved to IAM at Farnborough to co-locate it with IAM Flight consisting of one Hunter T7 flown by that excellent bloke Sqdn/Ldr Dr Mike Bagshaw.
He would take a 'sickie' out in the Hunter, throw it about for a while, then request 'priority return for immediate landing' so I would reply 'steer 090 descend to FL 50' without even looking at the radar because he was always around the Andover area.
I think Mike still flies a Bulldog out of Blackbushe.

Our Vulcan Nav Plotter used to barf during fighter affil., so went down to IAM for the 'honk course'.

100% success; when the Vulcan left service he went to the Tornado. Unfortunately he was killed after his aircraft had been shot down.

...or the RAF PR spin doctors (as they smoked some more of whatever it was when they came up with the RAF100 campaign).
