A pal of mine is currently restoring an Alvis Leonides from a Westland Whirlwind. He'd appreciate anyone who could direct him to a source of spares. Pse PM.

Whirlwinds had a Leonides Major. Sycamores had the Leonides.

A slight difference. The Leonides had a single bank of nine cylinders; the Major a double bank of seven so none of the structural parts are interchangeable.

There is one just North of Palau Sebatic in Malaysia but that was in 1966. It has probably dissolved like the rest of its helicopter now.

Try AT Aviation who have a Piston Provost for sale which has an AL 550 HP engine.

I was close to buying this aircraft ft when it was privately owned but being operated by the RNHF at Yeovilton.

Unfortunately it had an engine failure which rather deterred me but I was informed they had a significant stock of AL spares and so had been able to restore the engine which had two blown cylinders.

Try the lot at St Athan, they were doing the Pembroke, also register on the flypast forums and ask there.

I haven't seen the engine but understand it's radial so by the sound of it it's off a sycamore !

In that case it's a single row radial so bits off a Provost T1 or Pembroke will do.

Provost T1 (IIRC) Max. 3.000 rpm +8 Boost. T/O 2,800 rpm +4 1/2 in boost. Cruise 2,200 -1in Boost

Sycamore HR14 3,000 rpm 42 in Hg, 2.800 rpm 22 ins Hg the rest of the time.

Is there an issue about length of stroke depending upon the Model of engine?

I got lost trying to figure out all the differences but that seemed to stand out as I read down through the various descriptions.
