Another sad day for military aviation. It's hit hard and both crew members were experienced and also combat vets! RIP

A sad loss for their families and colleagues.
The French media report seems unnecessarily brutal in its detail. I'm sure we can all imagine the aftermath without being taken through the process step by step

The accident report has been issued citing training and supervisory issues.

A quick translation of the linked article...

The crash in January of a Mirage 2000D fighter plane of the French army in the Jura, which had killed the two crew members, is in particular linked to a lack of training, estimates the Bureau Accident Investigation for Safety State Aeronautics (BEA-É). In a report of which AFP learned Thursday, the BEA-É regrets the destruction of the black box of the aircraft and evokes human errors of the crew in the accident, linked in particular to a lack of training , and in the concerned wing (3rd CE), and in the Air Force in general.

The report considers that the crew did not realize sufficiently, or quickly enough, the dangerous position of the aircraft, which crashed in the Jura massif in difficult visibility conditions, while it was carrying out a very low altitude flight exercise or "ground following" (SDT). The absence of data in the flight recorder prevented the analysis of certain hypotheses, but the BEA-É raised a general training problem. "This lack of training has led to a search for optimization with each flight. Training has become, over the years, increasingly dense. This density has become the norm for crews who have experienced only this situation, "say the authors.

They report the "underestimation of the risks associated with this type of mission and a lack of supervision". And cite the pressure on the crew to "optimize training", even citing the "fear of the judgment of another experienced pilot" if he gave up the initial flight plan.

A combat pilot, Captain Chirié totaled 24 war missions and 940 flight hours, according to the Air Force. Deputy chief navigator, Lieutenant Michelon totaled 97 war missions and 1,250 flight hours. They had just returned from vacation and had not flown to mainland France for several months. In its conclusions, the BEA-É recommends in particular "the air force to ensure personalized monitoring of SDT training (...), in order to allow the command to adapt the complexity of the missions to individual progressions ".

On the judicial level, an investigation was opened against X of the counts of manslaughter and destruction of aircraft by the parquet floor of Metz, competent for the military affairs in the Great East.

Something seems lost in translation here ... could a French speaker elaborate, please.

I'm assuming that's NOT the French version of being 'on the carpet'.

A poor translation, the meaning is the office of the judicial system in Metz.

It means an assembly of people in authority with rights of investigation, such as the judiciary.
