Japans' newest Airline started passenger operations today.

Skynet Asia flt 112, a B737-400 departed Miyazaki for Tokyo Haneda at 0750 JST.

The airline plans to develop a network of services around Japan and Asia in a one class, low cost operation.

Operating 2 B737-400`s 5 times daily between Miyazaki (population 300,000) and Tokyo, bets are on as to how long this carrier can survive.
The common opinion (amongst Japanese) is that it has been started with the hope that another (larger) airline - eg. SkyMark, ANA or JAL (which amalgamates with JAS as of October) - will buy it out in the short term.

The chance that it can survive on its own for more than about 6 months, with such an intensive frequency of flights between KMI and HND, are in the 10 - 15% guesstimate.

Tech crews are comprised of time-expired (over 60 yrs) Japanese Captains, foreign (Australian & New Zealand) Capt/F.O.`s, and 1/2 a dozen "raw recruit" Japanese co-pilots.

"WHY??", is the question being asked in Japanese aviation circles.

Strange, very strange. (QHow do you make a small fortune from aviation? AStart with a LARGE one!!).
