Its that time, again. :(

I've been contacted about a chap who recently passed-away and apparently has no family. The only details I have so far are name, rank, service number and date-of-birth. There is also a hint of service with one of the notable squadrons of WW2. For now, everything I have been needs to be verified.

So, the exam question - where to start? I've dropped a line to the relevant Sqn Association who are delving into their records but what else can I do?

Contact the Royal British Legion. And the RAFAsscn.

They are usually very helpful.

Aaron - 908725 FS Victor J Barnett, DOB 28/9/1917. May have a link with 617 Sqn but, having spoken with their very helpful Association today, they have no record which means he wasn’t on 617 Sqn as aircrew. Like many, their ground crew records are not complete.

His funeral is in Telford on 22 January and for now we’re just trying to pull together some facts.

Cows, once you have verified details, do you have the names/emails of the RBL and RAFA in the Telford area? They can usually provide a standard bearer and probably a representative. PM me if you don't have them; I may be able to help.

Wrekin RAFA and both local RBL branches contacted - they have no knowledge but I am sure will be able to provide a Standard bearer. I should be able to find out more tonight.

Any ex-service people in the area to pay tribute to this couple who have no-one to see them onto their last journey together. RAF Cosford providing the bearer party.

That squares the circle from Cows' original thread beginning 4th Jan. - https://www.pprune.org/military-aviation/616910-recently-deceased-ww2-veteran.html

A big 'Well Done' to everyone who assisted in achieving a well-earned send-off, which is now also well in the news.
