Rating in Portugal

Hi,
I have an EASA PPL, 150 TT and in the middle of my ATPL exams
Looking for a good school to complete the ratings - IR, ME, CPL, MCC

I thought of doing it in Portugal, due to better weather than central Europe, and relatively med cost of living

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good school there?
Reasons why not to?
What do you know of the Portuguese CAA?
Any pros & cons will help

Where is your medical? They will be responsible for your licence, not the country or ATO that do your training with therefore the Portuguese CAA have little to do with it.

As for Portugal plenty of schools to choose from. Can’t help with recommendations tho.

What does it have to do with my medical?...
It is registered at the Czech CAA, like my PPL, but as far as I know I can transfer my "file" to another CAA to do the CPL there

The CA who hold your medical records are responsible for your licence. Therefore your examiner will have to submit the paperwork to The Czech CAA regardless of where you do the test.

Yes you can SOLI to a different CAA but why? You’re just spending extra money that you don’t need to - as you are looking for ‘cheap’ rather than ‘quality’ I assumed money may be important to you!

OK, didn't know that by default you can study and test anywhere, but the examiner register you in any other CAA
I'm quite sure the Czech CAA allow only a short list of examiners to test you for CPL

Anyway, I'm looking for a balance between cost and quality
If I wanted cheap, I could have remained in CZ

I am still at the beginning of the modular route and have looked into Portugal extensively. Unfortunately my experience is that, although most schools have a modular offer on their websites, they all concentrate on integrated. At least at PPL level, not a single school seems to be organising it at the moment. I hope things work out different for you. If not, despite the weather, Central Europe (Czech, Poland, Hungary and others) seems like the place to be for modular training.

I'm quite sure the Czech CAA allow only a short list of examiners to test you for CPL

Most CAs that i’ve dealt with will accept an ATO request for a local examiner. You are correct that they can designate one from their own pool but most are pragmatic enough...
