I have heard that Swissport will cease all operations in Portugal locations by 23:59 on 17th December 2018.
I can't find anything in the news about this, can anyone else confirm?

Can't confirm and haven't heard anything to that effect. Operations are ongoing as usual with no announcement anywhere that I can see to the contrary.
Where did you hear?

Yes, sadly its 100% true....one of my best friends here ironically he's the Portuguese Manager for all portuguese stations/airports.
All staff without employment right now. Faro station just closed officialy today, the main portuguese Servisair/Swissport base for decades :(
Cheers ; JF

I have done my best to search but to no avail... Will this have any impact on TAP ops in Lisbon or Funchal? I'm planning to do some hols there in a couple of weeks. Thanks.

Don't think so ! Completly unrelated ... Enjoy your upcoming hols

As for the company stop trading ... well that's Administration or Management of the 21st century. Companies are expected to last 10 or 15 years. Then "arrangements" are made to close the company, so as to get rid of the older, more expensive, employees, and in the mean time start a new company with lower labor costs.

Aren't Swissport owned by HNA? Might be something to do with their current well publicised financial woes.

as far as I know they’re up for sale. HNA needs some cash.

Who does SWP Portugal handle? As these carriers will still need ground service, and therefore I'd expect the majority of employees to be transferred over to the handling agent that picks the new contracts up....

Who does SWP Portugal handle?

To the best of my knowledge ... No one

Again, to the best of my knowledge, SWP bought Servisair with the intent of setting up an Handling company. Believe that they waiting for a licence to start activity as Handling operator.

The activity of Servisair was essentially a service of representation and assistance with documentation (flightplans, meteo, and maybe slots), but they were not a company licenced to provide handling, at least not licenced to provide handling airside (GPU, stairs, pushback, etc)

Happy to be corrected ...
