Sorry but I need some help please guys.. never thought I'd have to ask but things haven't been too great recently and it's time to ask because I'm at an absolute dead end and in tears writing this..

Location - Huddersfield but there doesn't seem to be anything close to here.

At my wits end

Thank you for any practical advice or suggestions

Make a call to SSAFA, they will make an assessment and will act as a gateway to other agencies. They act quite quickly. Good luck

Hi Cargosales,
I'm sure SSAFA can help. Point of contact is Forces Line, 0800 731 4880. Huddersfield is in the W Yorkshire Branch area, their email is [email protected], but I don't know how frequently it is monitored. If neither of these produce a response, PM me and I'll put you in touch directly. RAFA is said to be a bit of a drinking club these days, RAFBF is probably the one you want, but SSAFA will do the casework for them to action. Believe me, there is plenty of support out there for you. Stay safe.

as

As a volunteer caseworker with RAFA with a decent case load, and knowing how busy we are Countrywide, I have to say your comments about RAFA are ill informed and very unhelpful.
RAFA do of course have a Social side where no doubt those who wish to, are able to drink and meet up with friends and colleagues, we also have a very active welfare branch with offices throughout the Country, who spend all of their time supporting members of the RAF or the RAF family through a multitude of issues.
Much of the funding we utilise comes from the RAFBF once our caseworkers have done their thing....there are dozens of other charities and support groups that we utilise too.
it is disappointing to see RAFA brushed away by people who really should know better.
I have PM’d the OP and if need be, will be there to offer support when he replies.
Please be aware that we are here to support any member of the RAF family in times of need, (eligability for welfare based on just one day of service!) it only takes a call.

Thank you all for the kind and helpful words and for all your PMs. I'm working my way through them and will be in contact with one or more of the suggested groups very shortly.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for not judging and for being so helpful at a very embarrassing and difficult time -- I'm humbled and can't put into words how much it means to have the support of others out there

Thank you again.

Can I just say how uplifting it has been to witness the many informed and caring posts that have responded to cargosales Cri de Coeur? I am glad that however much the Royal Air Force has moved on since I left it 45 years ago, the support to those serving or retired has endured. We had a fatal aircraft accident on my squadron, all on board were killed. The boss appointed a number of us to act as liaison to the bereaved families. Mine had cash on the kitchen table within 24 hours, thanks to the RAFBF. I have always remembered that and support the fund to this day. Those who provide such practical help are to be applauded, whichever of the Service Charities they work for, voluntary or employed. The Service is above all a family, one that you will always belong to. At this time of year in particular it is well to be reminded of that.

Cargosales, I can offer no practical help, unlike those who have posted above, but I'm sure I speak for all when I say that I wish you good luck and that hopefully the help you seek is already there for you.

Simplythebeast, my humblest apologies, my comment was based on what has been posted on this forum, I think, not on first hand experience. I'm now educated!

Cargosale - good luck, lots of support round you. Simplythebeast - well said about RAFA. I have just taken on a role with HQ and I am sad that I never got more involved before
