Jane Fonda proves a turn-off for Netflix viewers

A comedy series starring Jane Fonda got higher Netflix ratings when viewers were shown a photograph that omitted the actress.

Subscribers were more likely to stream Grace and Frankie if presented with an image that depicted only Fonda’s co-star Lily Tomlin. The vignette, reported in The Wall Street Journal, gives a rare insight into how the secretive online service analyses data to inform its commissioning and marketing of programmes.

Netflix has begun showing promotional photos dependent on users’ tastes, in an attempt to help them find shows that they will enjoy. A comedy-thriller might be promoted to comedy fans with a humorous picture, while action fans are shown a more dramatic sequence.

Netflix’s algorithm established that more viewers clicked on the second series of Grace and Frankie if the picture did not feature Fonda, even though she is one of its two leads and has won two Oscars......

Netflix executives considered whether to risk alienating Fonda by marginalising her from publicity materials but ultimately decided not to let the data dictate their decision, the Journal reported..........

Hanoi Jane a turn-off? Who could have guessed?

Could we have a pay-per-view where we can see her in the stocks being bombarded by rotten fruit and vegetables? Better than a boxing match, that.

Oh, I read that as "Absence of a heart (beat) Fonda" and thought this was a snarky way to announce her death. The reason I don't like her is in her famous photo shoot she looks like "I've got a bad feeling about this but ATTENTION!"

Bloke goes to his doctor complaining of strange sounding 'wind'.
Doctor looks up his rear and sees a boil; just then the man breaks wind with a sound like 'honda'
Doctor says 'I see your problem now; just as the old saying goes'
'What do you mean?' says the bloke.
Well that old saying 'abcess makes the fart go Honda' says the doctor.

Oi'll get me coat.

Looks like it takes that treasonous bitch for us to find a topic we agree on.

Lord Haw Haw was hanged by the neck until dead , for his efforts in helping the Nazi Germans .

I always thought that she was a double agent used to introduce incurable STDs to the North anti aircraft gunners .
Hence the lack of punishment for her crimes against her country upon return :)

Although Fonda’s actions in visiting North Vietnam were sufficient to earn her the wrath of many Americans, in the years since those events took place they have been embellished to the point that the one tale most commonly associated with her Vietnam trip is an incident that never took place — a tale about U.S. POWs who furtively slipped messages to Fonda while she was meeting with them and whom Fonda promptly betrayed by turning those messages over to the POWs’ North Vietnamese captors (resulting in several of those prisoners’ being beaten, tortured, or killed. IT NEVER HAPPENED.

IT NEVER HAPPENEDThat's true, nevertheless, she still deserves all the disrespect we vets put her way.

Poor Jane ... she looked so happy in the moment, wearing that NVA helmet, sat at the controls of a real anti-aircraft gun, hanging out with her homies, her heroes, never thinking that others were going to hang that image around her neck like an albatross. A pretty face, sure, and a good actress, within limits, more a starlet than a star, but what in Hell was she thinking of?

Naff off with your relativism there, Evan. No, Jane never betrayed our POWs so directly, just as she has never boiled and eaten babies, but what she really did do, was quite happy to do (just look at her sappy expression in those images), was bad enough to earn her deserved opprobrium for the rest of her over-privileged life. She does not deserve a "Get out of jail free" card just because some people fake some of what she did; the reality of what she did was simply inexcusable: treason, albeit of a rather petty sort.
